WELCOME-- to the Website of the “NWTF PROUD” state of Texas. You have just come in contact with NWTF members from the Lone Star State that are dedicated to the betterment of the wild turkey in all its facets. We hope that as you peruse our website , you will become aware of the focus we are trying to maintain on the various NWTF programs. We are “banquet busy” and yet can find time for a strong scholarship program, JAKES events, re-stocking of the Eastern species in our state, our turkey donation program, turkey calling, turkey hunting and are very supportive of WITO and Wheeling Sportsmen.
Enjoy yourself—and take your time in “clicking around” to discover the love
we Texans have for the wild turkey. Robert Linder

From the President’s Desk
We have the new and exciting year facing Texas NWTF (2009) and we are all still in “economic shock” from the events of the past few months. This will be a challenging year for all of us. The NWTF chapters who start preparing earlier than usual for their Super Fund banquets will “reap” the rewards because of “sowing” early. In a year that might be full of “attendance challenges” we have to start pushing early to make sure that we get our NWTF supporters to hold those banquet dates as “special”. We have an obligation to try and make this year’s 2009 NWTF Super Fund banquet special.
Also—Nashville in February is going to be a time of great energy and focus on positive things for our organization as we continue helping the wild turkey. Please make the NWTF National Convention one of your special events for this year. Mark those dates –Feb. 19th to 22nd in Nashville Tennesee, See you there.
As we begin our next few years under a new President in Washington, DC, we must be sure that he and his cabinet-- and our Congress are aware that we expect continued support for wildlife, the protection of our environment and our hunting heritage. Better yet it is time to dedicate ourselves to seeing that all of the young people in the USA are exposed to “an element of the outdoors” as a requirement nationwide as they receive their public school education in this great country. Educational institutions must have a balance in philosophy –both conservative and liberal--so that our young people are exposed to “options” as they grow up in our schools. This is a huge challenge for our 21st century. It is not happening today.
Here in Texas we are blessed with a wealth of wild turkeys throughout our landscape. We owe it to ourselves and to the NWTF to expose our friends to turkey hunting this year if they have never been--and to take a youth into the woods where he gets to hear “the gobble of a long beard” this Spring. Life is what we make out of it. This year we may have to try a bit harder, but it will pay great dividends if we reach back and make that Herculean effort.
I know that each of you will be searching for that silver lining in 2009. So will I.

Cheers !
Robert Linder - Texas State Chapter President.
