| Carbon Sequestration in Longleaf Pine Ecosystems: Current State of Knowledge and Information Needs |
| Description: |
On February 16-17, 2010, The Center for Longleaf Pine Ecosystems in conjunction with the Fish and Wildlife Service East Gulf Coastal Plain Joint Venture will be hosting a meeting “Carbon Sequestration in Longleaf Pine Ecosystems: Current State of Knowledge and Information Needs” to be held on February 16-17, 2010 at the School of Forestry & Wildlife Sciences, Auburn University.
General topics to be covered include: carbon markets and policy; biology of carbon sequestration from tree to ecosystem; carbon accounting models for longleaf pine; carbon sequestration potential of longleaf pine ecosystems in relation to wildlife habitat management and forest management practices; economics of carbon sequestration in longleaf pine; current projects and initiatives; and long-term information and research needs.
Dr. Virginia Burkett, Chief Scientist for Global Change Research with the U.S. Geological Survey and co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, will present a keynote address on “Climate Change Trends and Projections for the Southeast: Implications for Forest Ecosystems".
