The Alabama State Chapter has 18 board members that serve the entire state of Alabama. Each board member represents a different part of the state to insure that the entire state is considered in any action or decision that we may make. As the Alabama State Board, we want to do everything we can do to help you get the most out of your NWTF membership. When the NWTF was first established, our primary mission was to stock turkeys in places where there were either none, or less than the number needed to have hunting allowed there. We have been very successful in that mission and now there are more turkeys in America than ever before. Now our mission is to conserve what we have and to work hard to save what we call the "hunting heritage". As you know, there are groups everywhere trying to stop what we enjoy so much. Now more than ever, we must join our forces and show everyone that we will not stand for our hunting heritage to be taken away. Whether or not you actually hunt turkeys or just enjoy the outdoors and hunt other species, your membership in the NWTF will go a long way to help preserve this hunting tradition. I belong to the NRA, SCI, and many other outdoor organizations because I know that my membership in these organizations is important in our fight to preserve our hunting heritage. Please encourage all of your hunting buddies to join the NWTF if they are not current members. That said, membership does have it's privileges. Did you know that as a member in the NWTF, you can purchase a bag of Chufa for $37.00 less than cost. This savings alone will pay for your membership. Also, your local chapter can take advantage of several of our seed programs. When available, you can get wheat, soybeans, corn, sunflowers, and other grain products, at a very low price. If interested in the seed program, you an contact Cissy Penner at NWTF headquarters and she can work you through the details. Usually you have to order either a truck load or a half truck load, and some find this too much for them. In this case you can work with other chapters to have them share in the seed shipment. In addition to this, the State Chapter will pay as much as $250.00 per chapter to assist you in getting your seed delivered at the lowest possible price. It is entirely possible that with this supplement, you could get your seed for free. This seed has to be used for game purposes and can not be given to non members. Other state programs include a $500.00 scholarship that each chapter can give to a student from their area. The details of how this scholarship program can be found on the NWTF website, and the state winner will receive $2,500.00. If you chapter wants to host a JAKES event, we can fund up to $250.00 per event from the super fund. (The super fund is the money we receive back from the banquets held all across this state) We also consider funding "in the ground projects, with super fund money. Super fund request are reviewed each August at our semi annual meeting. If your chapter has a request that you would like for the super fund to consider, let me know, and I will make sure that someone contacts you to go over the requirements and stipulations of super fund money. We have to use this on public grounds and not on private property. Our only source of money is from your net net profits from the Hunting Heritage Banquets, and from receipts from NWTF tag sales. This is why it is so important to have the best possible banquet you can have. If you are not sure just how to hold a banquet, please contact me, and I will get one of our regional directors and we will come to where you are and help you understand the things that are important. It is equally important that you support our specialty auto tag by purchasing one when your tag comes up for renewal. Thank you for all that you are doing for the NWTF, we do treasure your membership and support. Should you have any questions on what we do, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is shown below. Sincerely, Mike Colquett Alabama State Chapter President mcolquett@gmail.com
